Other than wandering Vintage Days again, watching some bike polo, celebrating Record Store Day or hitting up the Dirty Dowdy anniversary party.

1. PARTY WITH OZOMATLI
Ozomatli is at Tower Theatre tonight, leading the a long list of top notch concerts in Fresno tonight. (More on that below). The boys from Ozo play funky Latin music with hip-hop undertones. They’re joined by local faves 40 Watt Hype. The combination should yield a great night of party music. [Tickets]

Fresno will play host to bike polo players from L.A., San Francisco, Sacramento and more at this weekend’s Smack in Da Middle tournament, held Saturday and Sunday at Cary Park.

Bike polo is kinda like street hockey, but on bikes. This weekend’s tournament is organized by local group Pedal Junkies and Anthony “Tea” Gonzales, who sent us the following:

Teams from all over California will be coming to Fresno to play Polo all day Saturday and Sunday. Not only will this be a great day for the “Polo Family”, but also for the city of Fresno. This will bring a positive event and something new to our town.

Go to The League of Bike Polo site for more info. Here’s a video that gives you a good idea what bike polo is all about:

You know how Fresno is really ramping itself up in the bike coolness department? Well, here’s another notch on that belt — bike polo!

Tonight, Fresno Bike Kitchen hosts an evening of bike polo. Yep, it’s like polo, just on bikes. The Fresno Bike Kitchen, if you’ve never heard of it, is a pretty cool local biz that helps people rebuild their own bikes.

As you’ll see in the video below, there’s a total community vibe there. And it sounds like you might be able to save a few bucks compared to a regular bike store. Here’s a more in-depth article on Fresno Bike Kitchen from Fresno Famous too.

If you haven’t been paying attention, Fresno is the middle of a big bike growth cycle — and we’re getting some props from those biking pros in S.F. Keep an eye on ibikefresno, the bicycle master plan, Bike Hop/Critical Mass and Nightbike Fresno if you’re into biking.

We realize this bike polo event is totally last minute. But if it sounds like something you dig, then you’re in luck. There’s another bike polo event scheduled for Dec. 23. Fresno Bike Kitchen is also hosting a dodgeball game on Dec. 26 — if you’ve got on any post-Christmas aggression you need to let off.
