bg_0304The Stone Foxes are technically from the Bay Area, but the core of the band is Valley natives. Brothers Shannon and Spence Koehler grew up in the foothills and attended the same small high school that spawned Strange Vine (and the late guitar prodigy Corby Yates). Drummer (though the band members switch stuff around, so he plays bass and stuff too) Brian Bakalian is from Fresno proper.

The band should have a nice following around these parts. They’ve played here lot over the years, includes gigs at last year’s Catacomb Party and the grand opening of BitWise.

Which makes Saturday night’s show (with Strange Vine and Style Like Revelators) feel like a “local” show, possibly the biggest “local” show we’ve had in a while. By biggest I mean most hype worthy, or most likely to have a big-ass crowd waiting in line outside Fulton 55.

Now, if you want to go, but don’t wanna pay to get in (though you really should be OK with paying), we’ve got tickets to give away, courtesy of Strange Vine. To enter to win, leave a comment on this post. We want to know your favorite song from any of the three bands (make sure to tell us why). You have until 5 p.m. Friday to enter. Winners (yes, more than one) will be chosen at random and notified via email. So check your if you enter. One entry per person please.

I am personally enjoying Stone Foxes “Dying Star.”

Strange Vine has always been an inspiration to me. They were the first band from Fresno that I respected and loved. My favorite song is Ghost because when I listen to it I feel like I’m back at the show. I would buy tickets but I have no money.. So I would love to go if it was possible.

All three bands are extremely talented. Strange Vine’s debut album is an absolute masterpiece with Trouble easily standing out as my favorite song. Style has been rocking the local music scene for years now and it’s so great to see them playing with bands like The Stone Foxes. My favorite Style song is Funeral Pyre, ever since Tony joined the band they have reached an entirely new level that was never attainable with the old drummer. And let’s be honest when we say The Stone Foxes don’t have a bad song making it hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to choose I’d probably pick Ulysses Jones. I’ve always loved them as a group and with Brian behind the kit I feel like the sky is the limit.
