Patrick Fontes, a fourth-generation Fresnan who has a novel coming out in December, writes poetry and is a doctoral candidate in history at Stanford University, somehow has time to be a visual artist as well. His new show at The Vintage Market at 601, “Retrospective Fresno: Vintage elements within Fresno, CA,” sounds intriguing. It’s my pick for Third Thursday ArtHop.
Even though I have a wide range of photographic subject matter and styles, for this ArtHop I am showing montages of vintage elements, signs and structures from the Fresno area.
His influences include punk rock, pop art, art history, folk religion, working class culture, and all the grit, dust, sweat, tears and joy Fresno, California has to offer.”
Among the highlights of the show: a montage of architectural elements along the Fulton Mall; and a photo montage of ceiling elements at the Warnors theater.
