Embroidery artist Dina Kassel says she loves “being able to capture favorite paintings or familiar scenes in thread.” Jewel fm curator Marc Blake says the smooth, tiny stitches look so much like a painting that you have to see it to believe.
Kassel’s work will be on display 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, as part of ArtHop, the monthly open house of galleries and studios in the downtown Fresno and Tower District neighborhoods.
The Jewel fm space is offering what Blake calls a “triple ArtHop.” In addition to Kassel’s work, mosaics by Kathy and Larry Myatt and works by Jessica Lynn Stuart are featured.
My other ArtHop picks are the terrific group alumni show at 1821 Gallery & Studios, another group show at Gallery 25, curvy manzanita sculptures by Marvin Armstrong at Fig Tree Gallery and the printmaking invitational at Corridor 2122 (works pictured below). And, of course, you can’t forget the big Chris Sorensen tribute show at his studio in conjunction with his 90th birthday, which I wrote about in my Sunday column. It’s the month of Sorensen, and you don’t want to miss out.
