One more piece of news from Fresno Grand Opera with the just-finished season still fresh: General director Matthew Buckman has been appointed to the board of directors for Opera America, the national service organization for the opera industry. He’ll begin a three-year term on July 1.
From the company’s release:
America is comprised of leaders in the field from around the country, representing major companies like Houston Grand Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Seattle Opera, Florida Grand Opera and The Metropolitan Opera in New York. Buckman was asked to join the Board of Directors by Opera America President & CEO Marc Scorca.
Here’s how much Buckman is on the move: He raced after Thursday’s performance of “Tosca” to catch a red-eye flight to Washington, D.C. for the annual Opera America conference. Turns out the lost sleep was worth it.
