Sometimes you know an interview is going to be golden even before it begins — which is the way I ended up feeling about the thoroughly engaging interaction I had with local theater veterans (and married couple) Ashley and Anthony Taylor. They’re appearing in “Magic at the Memorial,” a musical revue marking the 10th anniversary of Children’s Musical Theaterworks’ tenure at the downtown Veterans Memorial Auditorium. I excerpted some of the best parts in my Sunday Spotlight column, but the whole interview is a gem — and well worth reading in its entirety.
Question: Let’s get the basics out of the way first. What’s the format of “Magic at the Memorial”?
Anthony and Ashley: The first half of the show is a revue of popular Disney tunes. Shannah Estep and Josh Montgomery have put together a number of medleys and solo numbers of classics and songs from more recent Disney films. The cast of 11 actors portrays a wide variety of characters as it takes the audience through a virtual tour of favorite childhood Disney songs. The second half of the show is an exclusive premiere of Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh.” We’ve seen the kids rehearse this week and it’s an absolutely precious show with all the music you remember from Winnie the Pooh and some new well-crafted tunes.
